If you have ever found yourself lamenting over photos of you because of excess chin fat, don’t worry. We at Rejuvenation medical spa would like to tell you a bit more about one of our more popular services: Kybella! Many people have questions about Kybella before they decide to get it done, so we are here today to answer these questions and help you feel more prepared before you dive in. Read on to learn more!
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an injectable formula that has been designed to both break down and absorb fat. It’s made from deoxycholic acid, which is a molecule that naturally appears in the body. When it is injected into fatty areas, Kybella works to destroy these fat cells. This treatment is FDA approved when it comes to small sections of the body, such as your chin.
What can I treat with Kybella?
We know that a formula that eliminates fat in your body sounds great to inject just about everywhere, but this is not the case. It works best in small areas where only a little fat needs to be removed. Kybella is most often used to treat the fat underneath the chin, and that is where we provide this treatment. We have heard that this treatment can be used for other small body contouring areas, but we specifically offer this service to the chin area because of the high success rate.
Should I choose Kybella or liposuction for my double chin? What is the difference?
Contouring your face should be easy without much hassle, which is why Kybella is a wonderful option. It’s a safe alternative to liposuction and any other treatment where you need to be under anesthesia. Of course, you should always feel free to talk to your doctor about the best possible option for you. Liposuction usually requires one to two treatments while Kybella will demand closer to two to four sessions. However, Kybella does not leave scars, and you are not put under for the treatment. Liposuction does leave scars at times, so keep that in mind while you make your decision.
What is the recovery like for Kybella?
You can expect to experience a little bit of swelling right after your Kybella treatment. This is quite common and will last for about two to three days. However, it should be totally resolved and back to normal within a week. After three days, you may feel the swelling, but it is not visible to others. If you feel self-conscious about the swelling at all, you can always wear a scarf or turtleneck to camouflage the area. Getting your treatment closer to the weekend will also allow your chin swelling to go down before you go back to your weekly activities on Monday. Over the next month, some patients report feeling (but not seeing!) some bumps underneath the skin in the treated area. This actually means that Kybella is working, and soon, the fat will be dissolved. At that point, the body naturally absorbs the fat cells.
How long will my Kybella injection results last?
The results of Kybella are actually considered to be long term. This means that, as long as you maintain your weight and keep your body stable, the fat should not return! FDA studies have shown that the results stayed consistent even after five years since the treatment. If you do gain weight after your Kybella treatment, it is possible for the fat area to return.
How long does the treatment take?
From start to finish, your Kybella treatment may take as little time as 30 minutes. Most of that time is spent waiting for the topical numbing agents to work. If you are concerned about time, please let us know as you make your appointment.
